Cadillac A Tradition of Innovation and Quality

Cadillac had its beginnings by rising from the ashes of the Henry Ford Motor Company. Henry Ford had left the company and taken his key partners with him. Cadillac produced the first fully enclosed cab in 1910. 1912 saw Cadillac produce the first vehicles with an electrical system that enabled starting and ignition to be done with a key. Up until this point, cars were cranked by turning a crank located on the front of the car. Lighting was also a possibility with the introduction of an electrical system. By 1915, Cadillac had developed the first thermostatically controlled engine cooling system.

 The United States Army recognized the excellence Cadillac had achieved so when, in 1917, U.S. Army officers in France needed dependable staff cars, the Army went to Cadillac.

 Cadillac became the premier line for General Motors when the firm purchased Cadillac in 1909. Word had gotten back to Dreystadt that Joe Lewis had had to resort to having a white friend purchase his when a Cadillac dealership had refused to sell one to him because of his race. The board gave him 18 months to produce results or they would scrap the line. The idea was a success and Dreystadt was able to turn sales around and played a large role in Cadillac surviving the years of the depression. By 1940 sales of Cadillacs had increased tenfold.

 By the 1970s Cadillac dominated the American market for luxury vehicles. However, the gas crisis of the time period took its toll on sales and Cadillac suffered along with the rest of U.S. car manufacturers.

 While still a symbol of luxury and style, sales of Cadillacs continued to slide and not until the introduction of the Escalade, Cadillacs only SUV, did things pick up. The 21st century has not been kind to any of the big three U.S. automakers and only when congress interceded with a financial bailout, was GM able to make the decision to keep the luxury line. With the United States in the midst of a financial crisis, unseen since the 1930s the future of Cadillac remains unclear.

 I was really sick of the winter and all the snow however the 6 speed manual BMW X3 is also a great and safe car to drive around the winter months, however it does not compare to the Audi R8. The upgraded V10 525 horse power engine with a manual 6 speed transmission produces 391lb-ft torque, a major upgrade from the previous model. This particular R8 was a special order from California, no dealer in Western NY had this particular vehicle. Going to work at Aware Bear with the new Audi R8 is awesome. I really enjoy driving around downtown Pittsford NY in comfort and style, this vehicle is a real head turner, it is one of a kind plus it came straight from CA.

 I am very impressed with Audis craftsmanship, attention to detail, and how the dash is setup making it easy for me to access all the cars controllers. Another good feature of the Audi R8 is the leg room. In the past I have driven other sports cars that lacked space making the ride not as comfortable as the Audi R8. I remember some of the Ferraris and Porsches that could have used more leg space.

 The biggest problem about owning an exotic car in Upstate NY is servicing the vehicle. These cars require a specialized shop with special tools and parts in order to get them fixed. A simple oil change on a Lamborghini could run you $1000. If you drive a Ferrari for example in Western NY, the closest Ferrari dealer is in Toronto 2 hours away or New York City 5 hours away. This Audi can be serviced in Rochester, Buffalo or Syracuse New York.

 The white and black exterior combined with the black leather seats with the premium sound, GPS navigation and 19 inch double spoke wheels with R8 calipers makes this a vehicle enthusiast. Ford Gt 2005 Car Review

When I approach an exotic car that can go 204 MPH with a roof line that is only as high as my belt, I have low ergonomic expectations. Ill probably get some bruising from the suspension and hopefully be distracted by the acceleration to forget how uncomfortable everything else is. I was only right about the acceleration.

 The Ford GT is the remake of the 1966 Le Mans champion car called the GT40. The original GT40 was a great looking car, but this new GT has a spectacular exterior design. Im normally quick to whine about a benign design concept, or a trunk line or the shape under the front bumper, or at least some little picky thing. But the more I looked around this car, the more admiration I have for this work of art. And the designers & engineers had to factor in stable aerodynamics at 200 MPH that would have flipped the original model on its top.

 The 5.4-liter engine fills the entire back half of the car, and the supercharged V-8 produces 550 horsepower. For the performance fans: the GTs 0-to-60 time is only 3.3 seconds, and it takes only 11.6 seconds to pass a -mile. The engine note is pretty plain; no NASCAR guttural tones or Formula-1 scream that I could tell; the glass partition between the interior cab and the engine deaden the sound. (From the inside you can turn your head to see a giant belt turning, to what I presume to be the superchargers).

 Under the front hood is plenty of storage room for a sports car; about enough for 6 tennis balls or a pair of flip-flops, but not both at the same time! Once inside the car, you realize that the only storage is in the front trunk. There is no glove box, no side-pocket, no cup holder, but I suppose I could slide a few envelopes under my seat. But this is exactly what I want in a true sports car all business at propelling me forward and nothing flying around the cockpit as I take big g-forces in the turns.

 The interior was much more comfortable than I expected, and the black and silver knobs and dash have an edgy look to them. It has the usual big red Start button that many expensive cars have made popular (again), and toggle switches like a space shuttle for the rear defroster and hazard lights. The tachometer is the big dial in front of the driver and that irrelevant speedometer is off to the right, nearly next to the passenger. Dont forget to set the temperature controls before you start moving because they are under your right elbow in the center console and awkward to reach while driving.

 When driving the car, the biggest surprise I had is how comfortable it takes the potholes and uneven surfaces. Ive ridden in sport BMW sedans that dont ride this smoothly. The GT is easy to launch and shift, with power delivered without a noticeable spike from the superchargers. I didnt get a chance to throw the car around many corners, but the low profile and wide stance would indicate an adeptness with lateral-speed.

 If you are trying to avoid attention, I cant think of a bigger mistake than being in this car. Everywhere I drove some people were staring and pointing, and at nearly every stop light, someone had a question about the car a lot more public attraction than any other unique production car Ive piloted. But for the GT most of its features are extremes, and I am very pleased that Ford has proven it can compete in the +$150,000 world market.
